Shrek’s Fairytale Kingdom
Beeline Interactive showed off the latest on Shrek’s Fairytale Kingdom at E3 for the iOS platform. The game follows the adventures of Shrek and Donkey as they progress through a storyline based on the DreamWorks movie franchise. But first, the game starts out with Princess Fiona, trapped in her tower. Luckily, she has a faithful bird that she can send out and gather resources for her. The game uses an unusual mechanic for gathering. As the character travels down the path, the player can click on goodies to gather them as the character goes by. Characters have a stamina bar, and some obstacles can drain a character down to the point they can no longer progress. Stamina does regenerate slowly, but players can also use Wishes instead to remove obstacles or speed up transportation. On some occasions, wishes may be recovered through normal game play. They can also be purchased with real money for the player that’s low on Stamina but wants to keep playing.
Princess Fiona has a large role to play later in the game, but her part in the beginning is short, allowing the player to move to Shrek pretty quickly. While in Shrek’s swamp, there isn’t much to do until you start building things. Placing a mud bath opens up one of the first mini games. Once build, Shrek can take a bath where the objective is to make him as dirty as possible. The controls here are pretty simple: move your finger quickly across the screen to get him to brush his teeth or pull earwax from his ears. There are many more mini games that unlock as the player builds things. Each can be completed as often as the player wants without need to worry about Stamina or other resources. They also have several more levels of difficulty that the player can unlock as they progress through the game. The mud bath is only one of dozens of objects a player can place. Each object placed either unlocks more mini games, more quest content, or more characters to interact with. In addition to the swamp, players can also build out many other areas based on locations from the movies, such as: Duloc, Dragon’s Keep, and other surprises. Beeline plans to continue to support more content for Shrek’s Fairytale Kingdom even after release. The adventure starts on your mobile device on June 21st. |
