Super Monday Night Combat Review

Super Monday Night Combat is a third person shooter based around a fictional futuristic sport parody of Monday Night Football.  In terms of art style and some of its gameplay, the game feels  very much like Team Fortress but the sport aspect makes it stand out. The fact that the combat isn’t solely among players made this game quite entertaining, and I found the commentary to be funny.

Each five-man team has the objective of protecting a sphere at their own end of the field, while destroying their opponents’ sphere. In order to do so, they must escort their own team’s robots to the opposing money ball. However, the robots can be destroyed by opposing robots, team members or gun emplacements, and so this mission can be quite tricky.

With this in mind, there are many different ways to help your team with none of them being sure-fire for success. Even if you aren’t killing opposition team members, there’s still plenty to do, whether it be smashing robots, destroying turrets or spawning robots for your own side. There are lots of different classes that you can choose from.  They each serve different roles.  There are also a few extras thrown in such as a dancing mascot that drops coins when shot and a giant, angry chicken. However, if you are interested in playing, you have to expect long waits.  The training might teach you the rules, but expect to die at first a lot.

Overall, I had plenty of fun with this game and would highly recommend it if you’re looking for a free title to sink some time into. The rules seem to change a lot, so there’s plenty going on and lots of different things to do. Just make sure to play the training for some basic understanding and don’t take it too seriously.
